What are the differences between universal and preprogrammed universal remotes?
Both work with most brands of equipment. Universal remotes require no programming and are designed to work with practically any brand and type of equipment. With a preprogrammed universal remote, you must enter a code that identifies other brands of equipment so the remote can transmit the frequencies that control those devices. If your VCR isn’t the same brand as your TV, you can simply enter the code for your brand of VCR and your remote will control both pieces of equipment.
