What are the differences between the GTP and PGCE?
GTP trainees are employed by a school, as an unqualified teacher, while they train and attend sessions at the university. The school plays a key role in training the GTP trainee and provides them with a mentor. On passing the final assessment trainees are recommended for QTS but do not receive an academic award from the university. PGCE students spend more of their time at the university as they are studying for an academic award from the university. They also carry out two block placements in schools. Applying for more than one GTP or PGCE Applicants can apply to more than one GTP or PGCE run by different providers. Primary and Secondary routes The University of Brighton offers both the primary and secondary routes for the GTP. Secondary trainees can specialise in the following shortage subjects: mathematics, science, ICT, modern foreign languages, design and technology, and religious education and the following non-shortage subjects: art and design, business, English and geography.
