What are the differences between the EGA and the VGA versions?

• The number of colors, of course! Also the interface. • Seriously though, there are only minor differences in the gameplay between the original EGA version and the 256-color VGA remake: • The VGA version tends to have more easter eggs, ambient forest sounds and other graphical candy. • The beggar was named Sam in the remake and talked about the Spielburg Cider festival and Silmaria. In the original, his name wasn’t mentioned. • The Goblin Hideout was renamed to Goblin Combat Training Zone. • The Troll Cave doesn’t have an interior section in the VGA version, and you get no treasure for fighting Fred. • Timing sequence puzzles such as the Brigand’s Cafeteria, Yorick’s Maze are much harder in the VGA version. Defeating the Swordmaster is almost impossible too. • Hard-core QFGers seem to prefer the original EGA version. If you are playing through all the episodes for the first time, I would recommend playing this version.
