What are the differences between the AlienBees and White Lightning products?
AlienBees and White Lightning are both divisions of Paul C. Buff, Inc. While both lines are similar in design, there are some differences. First, AlienBees and the White Lightning X800 units all have a stepless 6 f-stop power variability, while the White Lightning X1600 and X3200 have an additional quarter-power switch, allowing the units to be powered down an additional 2 f-stops for a total power variability of 8 f-stops. Both lines offer built-in slave trippers, true modeling previews, and both arrive with a standard 7-inch field reflector, a user-replaceable 5600K daylight-balanced flashtube, 15′ power cord, and a 15′ sync cord. Both product lines offer a internal fan cooling and however in the AlienBees line the fan is always on and in the White Lightning X-Series the fan is thermostatically controlled.
