SDE-VS is embedded inside the Visual Studio which has the same look & feel also share the same VM. It only takes one process when both Visual Studio and Smart Development Environment are launched. Visual Paradigm for UML Visual Studio Integration is works in parallel with the Visual Studio. The Visual Paradigm for UML and Visual Studio are work in different process (different VM). The two applications communicate with each other to perform the code/model sychronization.
