The vaginal tablet (VagifemĀ®) is tiny and well absorbed by the vaginal lining. It usually is well tolerated and doesn’t fall out or leak out after inserting into the vagina. For most women, using it twice a week is effective. Although it is recommended to be used twice weekly, the amount of time between each dose can be increased or decreased, depending on the woman’s symptoms, which she can discuss with her doctor. The disadvantage is that the applicator is large and not reusable. The vaginal ring (EstringĀ®) is easy to insert and can be left in for 3 months. One disadvantage is that there is only one size and one dose. Because the ring is left in for 3 months, dosing changes can’t be easily made.
