What are the differences between playing for free and for playing for real money?
The one major difference between playing poker for free and playing for real money is the level of competition involved. Whether it is because of the unrealistic feeling of playing online or the lesser amount of money at stake, players tend to play more recklessly when nothing is being risked. If an experienced player joined a free multi-table tournament he would be absolutely stunned by the amount of players that go all-in with junk cards. Again, without exaggeration, there are players that would call an all-in bet with nothing more than a 2 and an 8 off suit! Since there is nothing at stake players will play in a manner that is simply unfathomable. For this reason it is very important to draw a fine line between free poker tables and real money tables. Do not assume that you are talented because you manage to succeed at free poker. Granted that it may signify an amount of potential, but it is still a long way off from playing when it counts.
