What are the differences between nihilism and existentialism?
A nihilist believes that in order to improve social systems like government and education, the existing systems must first be destroyed. Existentialism is less concerned with societal foundations. Its tenet is that individuals are able to define their own reality and create meaning in their lives, even when faced with despair and the breakdown of everything around them. This difference is basic and fundamental to the two schools of thought. If you delve deeply into both of them, though, you will begin to find similarties that can blur the line. It may be best to stick to basics when defining the differences.
