What are the differences between Lothar Walther rifling?
A.) Lothar Walther’s male polygon rifling is a true polygon rifling. It is not a 5R or a 5C spin off. Lothar Walther polygon does not have any sharp edges from land to groove: all points are tangent. What that means is that, if untreated, it wears better than conventional rifling. It does not foul as bad. Velocities from a polygon rifled barrel are slightly higher but not significantly so. Cons? Lothar Walther polygon is about 0.25 MOA less accurate than conventional rifling. Both types are still sub-MOA barrels. Polygon usually gives you about a 0.75 to 1 MOA rifle.
