What are the differences between keeping rabbits as a hobby, homestead production, and commercial production?
Use of the domestic rabbit in small scale operations far exceeds large scale use by commercial operations intended to provide a primary income for the operator. Historically, both in numbers of rabbitries and number of rabbits per operation, worldwide the small scale rabbitry is the norm in terms of size. This poses particular problems and concerns with regards to management. Many small rabbitries are not operated in a fashion that shows a profit at the end of the year. Often other interests such as breed development, show or fancy, and a kind heart, supercede the interests of profitability. Still, there exists a small number of individuals that raise rabbits as a homestead operation, to place meat on their tables, and to be able to sell some rabbits to subsidize the costs of their operations. It is this last group that motivates the writer of this book to explore how the small scale rabbit breeder may reduce his costs, increase his income, and enjoy his small scale operation in a fash
