What are the differences between FAT16 and FAT32 File System?

0

The default formatting for all types of Memory Cards is FAT16, that includes 8MB, 16MB, 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB Memory Cards. Therefore, the maximum supporting capacity for the FAT16 file system is 2GB. However, if using a 4GB+ Memory Card you need to format the Memory Card to the FAT32 file system. If the digital device supports only the FAT16 file system and does not support the FAT32 file system you cannot use a memory card bigger than 2GB. The ByteStor 4GB CompactFlash Hi-Speed Card is only supported by FAT32 devices and must be formatted to FAT32. It’s best to format the memory card in the device it’s being used in (i.e. digital camera, mobile phone, notebook, etc). You will need to check with the device’s manual to see how this is done. Normally the format facility on a digital device is found in the same menu as where you can delete items from your memory card. If, for any reason, you do not have a format facility in your digital device you can use a Memory
