What are the differences between cooperative education and internships?
An internship is usually, but not always, a single term, for-credit experience. Most students involved with the UNI program participate in an internship. A co-op alternates work and study periods over several semesters. Most “true coops,” as they are often called, occur in technical fields such as engineering, computer science and industrial technology. True co-op placements are typically with large corporations and may involve two to four work periods with a company. The Career Center has a web page that explains the difference between cooperative education and internships. The web page is found at (http://www.uni.edu/careercenter/coop/index.html).
