What are the differences between a train-set and a model railway?

You tell me. Mostly it seems to be a mater of perception; my Hornby Duchess trundling around the tabletop is a train-set; the chap whose scratch-built loco running on 18.82 mm gauge rails through painstakingly re-created scenery is a model railway. There are of course, as with so many things in life, innumerable shades of in-between.
