The extension cabinet is more efficient than the combo cabinet because there is no chassis mounted inside. Therefore the extension cabinet has a slightly wider frequency range (more bass and treble) and is slightly louder. A separate head also isolates the tubes and chassis from direct speaker vibration resulting in less noise, buzzes, rattles and the tubes last longer.
