What are the differences between a consolidation and dissolution?
In a consolidation two municipalities combine to form a new entity. Dissolutions refer to a situation where a town or village is dissolved into an adjoining town or village, pursuant to Town Law or Village Law. For example, two towns may consolidate to form one new town. An example of dissolution is when a village is dissolved or eliminated and the town where the village was located assumes responsibility for services.
