The Master’s in School Counseling prepares students with a valid Kentucky teaching certificate and one year of teaching experience to become a school counselor at either the elementary level (K-8) or secondary level in Kentucky (5-12). Students without a teaching degree, certificate of teaching experience may also be admitted to the Masters in School Counseling Program. Forty-two states other than Kentucky do not requite teaching certification for experience to be a school counselor and students who want to use the Masters in School Counseling in one of those states should contact the Department of Education in that state to see if they will qualify to be a school counselor in their state.
