Community Health Assessment Sample Demographic Characteristics Sedgwick County, as a whole, has a typical small midwestern city profile in terms of age, gender, racial/ethnic composition, and marital status. The 2001 CHAP Telephone sample was comprised of a slightly higher number of women in comparison to the 1996 survey (Table 1). Respondents were predominantly female (68.1%) with an average age of 42 years. Gender estimates for Sedgwick County in 1999 indicate that 48.9% of the population is male, while 51.1% are female. The second person residing in the home was predominantly male (56.4%), with a mean age of 22 years (Table 8). Approximately 60% of the sample was between 18 and 44 years old, while nearly 38% were between 45 and 64 years.
