A page view refers to a single web page being downloaded to a browser. Every time the user navigates to the page or hits the Refresh button will cause a page view. The exception to this is that often the page is cached on the users hard drive and is not downloaded from the web. This situation will not cause a page view When we refer to a ‘hit count’, we mean page views. A unique visitor, on the other hand, is a distinct person that visits a web page. The visitor may visit the page 10 times a day, but is recorded as a single visitor. Unique visitors are tracked per day, per month and all-time. A daily unique visitor is someone who comes to your site for the first time that day. A monthly unique visitor is someone who comes to your site for the first time that month. An new visitor is someone who comes to your site for the first time ever.
