Nowadays, there is a very thin line between a democracy and a republic. A democracy is defined as a system of government whose policies are entirely and fully represented and supported by the people of that country. A republic, on the other hand, is a system of government that, though is also represented by the general public, is bound by constitutional laws that sometimes override the peoples’ views. Both democracies and republics can have people in power in the government that represent the voices and views of the common man, such as ministers, etc. In a republic, however, there will usually be a head of state who has the last word on most policies, like a president. This system is often considered close and comparable to a monarchy, but it is not entirely the same, because the people still have a say when putting forth new policies.
