Aerobes: An organism, such as a bacterium, requiring oxygen to live. Also called aerobium Facultative Aerobes: An anaerobic microorganism which can grow under aerobic conditions. Obligate Anaerobes: A microorganism that cannot use oxygen and can grow only in the absence of free oxygen. Microaerophiles: Microaerophilic organisms are a specific type of organism that requires oxygen to survive, but requires environments containing lower levels of oxygen than are present in the atmosphere (~20% concentration).
