What are the dangers to my children and others since Springdale Elementary School is adjacent to Springdale Creek Apartments and the Cypress Creek Area?
The Health Department does not know whether children have a higher risk of health problems than adults from exposure to dieldrin. Children should not play in areas where high levels of dieldrin have been found until more investigation has been done. Currently, Velsicol Chemical Corporation, TDEC and the USEPA are conducting soil testing at Springdale Elementary School to determine if there are any contaminated soils present that may impact the health of children. Results of the soil testing should be complete by the end of June 2005.
