What are the dangers of an egocentric view in a cover letter ?
Using an egocentric view in a cover letter can be a huge mistake. While a cover letter is supposed to focus on a person’s individual strengths and what they can do for an organization, it is important to not seed the letter with too many ‘I,’ ‘me,’ or ‘my’ sentiments. Using ‘you’ would be a better option, and avoid the first person pronoun use whenever possible while still keeping the flow of the letter natural and the purpose as real as possible. Conversation where a person talks only about themselves and never anything else can be boring, and a cover letter is no exception! Focus on what your skills are and how this can translate into a positive advantage for the company if you were hired there,as it also shows interest in the company and an awareness of the job opening.
