What are the dangers of a blood sugar level of 1304?
She could go into diabetic coma, she could even die if its not treated immediately, however, she is in the hospital and they will get it down. At a blood sugar level that high, I’m really surprised she’s not already in a coma. They have to bring her blood sugar down quickly to a safer level and then she’ll have to get it down even further when she goes home. They can’t bring it down too fast, because its too much of a shock to the system. She will probably have to start insulin, at least for a while to get it under control and may have to stay on insulin for the rest of her life. Sometimes diet and exercise can be used to control type 2 diabetes. With type 1, insulin is always required. So, when she gets home, encourage her to test her blood sugar after meals, about 1 to 2 hours after, to eat less carbs, and to stick with the plan to keep her blood sugar under good control.
