What are the currently recommended vaccines and when should my child get them?
The following vaccines are recommended for all children: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTaP); Polio; Hemophilus influenza B; Pneumococcal; Hepatitis B; Varicella; and Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR). In addition a yearly (in late fall) influenza vaccine is recommended for children from 6 months – 2 years and their families and to all children with chronic health conditions. Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for all people over 2 years of age who live in a locale where the rate of Hepatitis A is above a certain level. California and San Francisco both have high rates of Hepatitis A. There is some flexibility in the specific schedule for these vaccines. This table outlines one generally accepted approach. You should discuss this with your child’s health care provider. 2010 Vaccination Schedules For more information, visit the American Academy of Pediatrics Web site.
