What are the current rules on hand luggage when travelling from the UK to USA?
Since rules were relaxed after the terrorist alert last autumn, you may take one piece of hand luggage which must not contain any of the usual no-no’s, e.g. scissors, knives, etc. In addition you may now take up to 100ml of liquids through security, but these must be placed in a clear plastic bag provided at the security desk. Once you have cleared security you can buy what you like from the duty free shops in the airport and take it on board the plane. Most airlines these days don’t allow cigarette lighters in either checked-in or hand luggage. I hide mine in a spectacle case, that usually works.
