Slough Borough Council, in partnership with other agencies, including Slough Primary Care Trust (PCT), has formed the ‘Smoke Free Berkshire Alliance’. The Alliance is a group set up with the aim of reducing the ill-health and premature death caused every day by smoking tobacco in Berkshire. The group has the remit of implementing the government’s six strand action plan for reducing smoking prevalence by following the Government Office for the South East regional strategy. The current priority area for work is taking action against smoking in private work and public places. The Alliance has created a website which includes a guide for the public listing 100% smoke-free establishments and a toolkit for managers and landlords of premises that wish to develop and implement smoke free premises. Hard copies of both documents can be requested free of charge by emailing the alliance co-ordinator russell.carter@berkshire.nhs.uk.
