What are the costs of owning/leasing a horse?
You have some really good answers here, but I do see a lot of specific prices being mentioned…some seem really high, while others seem really cheap. Do your research and call a local vet (horse vet) office. Ask them for a normal call fee. Better yet, find a stable you like and they will have all those details for you, including farrier fees. You can also ask them about their barn rules. All barns have them, some different than others, especially about things like times you can ride. If you lease, and there is nothing wrong with leasing, make sure you GET A CONTRACT! There is nothing worse in any business arangement that one person thinking one thing and the other thinks something else. I would suggest you do a lease with an option to purchase.
