What are the costs for setting up a fresh water fish tank?
How much have you got? You can set up a freshwater tank quite cheaply, especially since used tanks and equipment are often available at bargain prices. On the other hand, some people spend huge amounts of money for luxury-class setups. Being poor, my strategy has always been to hunt for used equipment in good condition. People getting out of the hobby are often willing to sell their tanks for pennies on the dollar. If you want two “or more” telescope-eye goldfish, though, you should get a bigger tank than 20 gallons. About a 40 to 55 gallon tank (U.S. gallons) is appropriate for 3 or 4 goldfish. Goldfish grow to about a foot (30 cm.) long. You could keep a smaller species of fish in a 20-gallon, though. “Is that stuff necessary?” For reasons I won’t go into here, a chemical dechlorinator works much better than “just leaving water out for a day,” so I would definitely buy that. Get one that removes both chlorine and ammonia. If you use this, you won’t need another water conditioner. The
