What are the correct settings for my modem in the BIOS and how do I check it?
For the XL: Tap the DEL key immediately upon booting your computer. This should take you into your system s BIOS setup. In the BIOS use your down arrow key to highlight Peripheral Setup and then press Enter. The first line should say Com2 Modem port, you will want to make sure this is set to 2f8h. If it not set to 2f8h, then use the Page Up key until it does say 2f8h. Once it is set to 2f8h press your ESC key, then F10 and then Enter to save and exit. For the XLi Tap the F2 key immediately upon booting your computer. This should take you into your system’s BIOS setup. In the BIOS, use your right arrow key to move to the Advanced menu. Use the down arrow key to highlight Peripheral Configuration and then press Enter. The first line should say Com2 Modem, you will want to make sure this is set toEnabled and the I/O range is set to 2f8h. Also verify that the DMA settings are set to 05 and 06.
