What are the conviction rates and incarceration rates in cases involving violent offenses?
Interestingly, both the conviction rates and incarceration ratios generally coincide with the severity of the offenses. The more severe the offense was, the higher the conviction rate and the greater the incarceration rate. Consequently, individuals arrested for murder are more likely to be convicted and sentenced to prison than other types of violent offenders (see Figure 5).
