What are the control measures of saline soils?

A. Control of the salinity in soil means reducing the extent of excess salts from the soil. The ways to follow are : 1. Scrap the crust layer with spade. 2. Divide the field into 20 – 25 cm plots. 3. In each plot the water level should be kept 20 cms height. The water should be with less salt content. Water is allowed to stand for 4 – 5 days. After 5 days the water should be drained. The rain water is best for this purpose. In this case plug the drains in the middle bund at rainy season. If you do like this 3- 4 times the salinity concentration will be decrease. 4. Application of organic manures especially animal manures, compost and green manures are important with these acid fertilizers like urea, ammonium sulphate, single super phosphate also used . 5. In case of unavailable of quality of irrigation water, saline resistant varieties like rice sugarcane, Jowar, Bazra, Maize etc should be grown. Generally the pulse crops doesn’t tolerate acidity.
