What are the contributions that ancient Athens gave in todays society?
They invented democracy, which in a diluted form is still practiced today in many countries. They created the first real theatres, and performed the first real plays. They invented organised sports, creating the first major sporting festivals, most famously the Olympic Games. They invented the concept of philosophy, a way of looking for reality and truth without strict reference to religion and mythology. I would dispute that they invented the medical profession though, there were practising doctors in ancient Egypt thousands of years before the rise of classical Athens. Likewise they did not invents astronomy, which was being studied by the ancient Babylonians and Egyptians, again thousands of years before the era of classical Athens.
