What are the contraindications, side effect, effectiveness and safety of the MMR vaccine?
There is no medication without complications or side effect, but some are transient like rash, running nose, cough for one day, slight fever which is a rare occurred in 5% children two days of after the immunization, and another very rare side effect likely occurrence in one child every million doses of vaccine. MMR vaccine is absolutely contraindicated in patients with immune deficiency diseases or suppressed immune responses from malignancies such as (leukemia or lymphomas), under corticosteroids therapy, irradiation, alkylating drugs or antimetabolites, or patients with severe allergy to a previous dose of measles vaccine or neomycin. Allergy to eating eggs is not considered as a contraindication, and infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or clinical AIDS, however, is not a contraindication because of greater risk of severe measles in that patients.
