WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE DEVELOPMENT NOT GOING AHEAD?
The Sustainability Appraisal sets out the impact of a ‘do nothing’ option, which will result in ongoing site deterioration as well as increasing year-on-year maintenance requirements, decreasing use and knock-on impacts on the image of the town, seafront and economy generally. The Council as landowner will need to pay a bill of £5m+ to maintain the Pavilion and millions of £ to repair/replace the sheet piling and infrastructure around the Ferry Terminal. This is money the council does not have and is unlikely to be able to get. This and the £ 1.1 million annual subsidy needed to keep the Pavilion operating might result in it having to close.
