What are the consequences of globalization?
The consequences of globalization are profound and in many ways hard to comprehend. They parallel the consequences produced during other eras in history when vast new trade networks developed. As in previous periods, globalization has led to greater migrations, mainly of people from less developed areas to the developed world. And, while the spread of technology has played a major role in the rise of globalization, the phenomenon itself has in turn pushed the rapid spread of technology in an almost self-sustaining process. Perhaps most profound is the cultural exchange that has taken place particularly the spread of American culture across the world. A good example is M.T.V., which has markets in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. As I repeatedly tell my students, when people exchange goods, they also exchange ideas, processes, people, and religion among other things.
