What Are The Cons of Legalizing Marijuana?
Think of the cons of smoking cigarettes – apply it to marijuana. Marijuana certainly has its share of medicinal purposes, unlike cigarettes, but an entire “blunt” of marijuana is the equivalent to smoking three cigarettes. Additionally, it alters behavior extensively. In the Netherlands, thought it is legal to consume marijuana, it is illegal to drive under its influence – similar to driving while under the influence of alcohol in the States. I personally am not for the criminalization of marijuana smoking – it’s not a very interesting topic to me, and smoking it isn’t really my thing, either. But, I have been to countries that have legalized it, and I don’t see any negative side effects to the economy, to the people, or to the behaviors of people. I am a cigarette smoker and a social drinker, and if that’s legal, I don’t really see why the possible harmful effects of marijuana haven’t been overridden, as well. I feel like all the arguments against marijuana can be applied to alcohol,
I’m going to be honest here the pros far out weigh the cons. Have you ever been high? If not it is different for everyone, for me it was a relaxing experience, I was goofy as in the movies and such but it was overall pretty fun. I have also been drunk, I can’t really remember what that felt like and I don’t really remember what I did, aside from the pictures of course. Yes I suppose it kills brain cells, the same as alcohol though. So really I suppose here is my con list, by the way, I am pro marijuana legalization. Cons: 1) Increased unsafe drivers – Currently we have a problem with DUI, this problem might become intensified. 2) Marijuana is a gateway drug that impairs your judgment slightly (IMHO less than alcohol though) it will lead some to larger drugs. Pros: 1) Another source of income for the government, they could then lower taxes (they wouldn’t but they could :D) 2) In 2006 we spent 12.
