What are the comprehensive examination requirements?
Upon completion of all coursework, you will sit for your comprehensive examination. This usually includes written and oral examination components conducted by your primary mentor, representing your major field of study, and a secondary mentor representing your minor field of study. The written component will require you to respond in writing to a set of essay questions presented to you by your committee. This component is conducted by “open book” but requires you to explore the subject matter creatively with professional perspectives and drawing heavily from the academic literature. The oral component is usually conducted by telephone conference or other electronic means and is focused upon examining the details of your written essays. Most mid-career professionals do exceptionally well in this type of evaluation.
