Communicable diseases of public health significance include Tuberculosis, Syphilis, Chancroid, Gonorrhea, Granuloma Inguinale, Lymphogranuloma Venereum, Hansen’s Disease (Leprosy). These diseases are considered Class A conditions and your application will be denied till proper treatment is completed. Q: What is the Tuberculosis / PPD skin test? A: The PPD or TB (Tuberculosis) skin test, checks for an antibody reaction in the skin of a person exposed to the tuberculosis bacteria. A small amount of testing material will be injected in between two layers of skin on the forearm. The test must be read 48 – 72 hours after placement. If test is negative then you are cleared for tuberculosis. If there is a positive test then a chest x-ray will be required to check if you have active tuberculosis.
