What are the common side effects of AVONEX?
Most people who take AVONEX have flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sweating, muscle aches, and tiredness) early during the course of therapy. These symptoms may be a result of the body’s natural reaction to interferon, the active ingredient in AVONEX. The flu-like symptoms usually go away within 24 hours after the injection, and tend to diminish with continued use. Please see Important Information About AVONEX at the bottom of the page for more information about side effects. Most people adjust well to treatment with AVONEX. In the 2-year pivotal study, only 4% of people discontinued AVONEX therapy due to side effects. Further, in a long-term safety study of people taking AVONEX up to 5 years, only 2% stopped therapy due to side effects.
