What are the common reasons why applications fail?
• Not an institution or fund – The organisation applying for endorsement is not an institution or fund. Whether an organisation has the character of an institution will depend on a range of features, including its activities, size, permanence, purposes and recognition. Incorporation on its own is not enough for an entity to show it is an institution. • No governing documents – The organisation has no governing documents that show the organisation’s purposes. Governing documents include trust deeds, memorandums and articles of association, constitutions, rules or charters. • No non-profit and winding up clauses – The non-profit and winding up clauses are missing from the governing documents. These clauses must prevent the organisation from distributing profits or assets for the benefit of particular people, both while the organisation is operating and when it winds up. • Purposes don’t benefit the community – The organisation’s purposes don’t benefit the community or an appreciable sect
