What are the Common Causes of Constipation?
Constipation in children is most commonly caused by holding. Children try to hold off on going to the bathroom to pee and poop because they would rather do something else more fun. Some children may feel uncomfortable using the restroom in public facilities. Others may be rushed when using the restroom which results in incomplete emptying of the bowels. If they hold their bowels for a long period of time, the colon may stretch and make the constipation worse. If it hurts or it is difficult to have a bowel movement, then children will attempt to go even less oftenthe problem gets even worse.
