What are the colors of a mood ring?
Mood rings were a popular piece of jewelry back in the 1970s. The idea is that the ring changes colors according to the ring wearer’s mood. In reality, what is responsible for the change of color is something called liquid crystal. As the body’s temperature changes, the molecules within the liquid crystal absorb light at different angles. This light is reflected back as different colors. The warmer the body temperature, the bluer the ring color. According to Spectrum Wellbeing, in early times, doctors used strips of liquid crystal to measure a child’s temperature. Marvin Wernick, a jewelry designer, decided to make jewelry using these crystals. Others followed, and mood rings and other mood jewelry have enjoyed popularity ever since. It may not be a very reliable source of judging someone’s mood, but anything that changes colors on the spot like that is just plain cool and fun to wear.
