What are the cleanup levels that should be used?
For soil, please see the FAQ regarding screening soil. For surface water, both aquatic life and human health standards must be evaluated. Surface water and groundwater concentrations may not exceed the standards provided in the Montana Numeric Water Quality Standards Circular 7 (DEQ-7). Sediment concentrations may be compared to EPA Region 3 BTAG Freshwater Sediment Screening Benchmarks. Air concentrations are compared to levels contained in the April 2009 Regional Screening Levels (RSL) for Chemical Contaminants at Superfund Sites guidance document.
