What are the circumstances in which the HRG code ‘N12’ (antenatal admissions not related to a delivery event) should be used ?
A. This code should only be used when a woman is admitted to hospital. If women are not admitted, they should be counted as a first obstetrics outpatient appointment and providers reimbursed accordingly. Local agreements need to be made as part of the contract-setting process on the handling of N12s, i.e. handling arrangements should be agreed in advance of the year, not once the activity has occurred.
