What are the Cheshire Councils doing about it?

The new Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester authorities have agreed that this situation needs to change and a more sustainable way of dealing with non–recycled waste must be found. The two Councils invited companies to come forward with waste treatment solutions and have shortlisted two options as part of a competitive process being undertaken jointly by the new authorities. The companies proposing these options are: • Resource Recovery Solutions (Cheshire) Ltd (RRS), a partnership between United Utilities and Interserve • Viridor working with INEOS The successful company will be awarded the competitive Private Finance Initiative contract to manage the treatment of Cheshire’s residual (left after recycling) household waste over the next 25 years – and meet required landfill diversion and recycling targets.
