What are the charges I should expect to incure when I order goods from the U.S. and abroad?
A flat rate for customs clearance has been negotiated with the University’s custom broker. Also by law the University’s custom broker must remit the GST to Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA) upon entry of the goods to Canada. The University’s custom broker will later bill the University. McGill’s Account Payables office will then reimburse the University’s customs broker for the GST. The GST including the 67% rebate will be charged to the appropriate FOAPAL(s).For the QST, the University must remit the QST to the Quebec government. When paying the vendor from whom the goods have been ordered, McGill’s Account Payables office will remit the QST to the Quebec government. The GST including the 47% rebate will then be charged to the appropriate FOAPAL(s).
