What are the characteristics of primary and secondary sources?

0

A primary source is a first hand acount of events that happened in history. eg, during the first world war, if a soldier was writting a diary in the trenches this is considered a primary source however you would need to consider the realiablity of the sources, whether it could be bias or unbias ect. A secondary source is a second hand account of events that happened in history. basically, if you think about it this way, it is like witnessing a fight in a playground, if you witnessed it, it would be a primary, but once you tell someone who hasnt seen it, and that person told the next it would be a secondary where it could be exaggerated to such extent that is no longer reliable. going back to world war one, if you were learning about it throught the school text book published after the war it is considered as a seconday source I hope that helped!
