What are the characteristics of O Negative Blood?
Being type O (or type zero), we could say that type oh blood is called that because such blood, essentially, has no type. More specifically, type O blood produces no antigens (that which causes antibodies to be formed by bloods with actual type characteristics, A and/or B), with the result that typed blood (A and/or B) will not react to (will not defend with antibodies against) being infused with type O blood. For this reason, a person with type O (no type) blood is referred to as an universal donor – his/her blood can be transfused into that of any other person without ill effect. However, it is not true that blood from any other person can be transfused into the blood of a type O individual. A type O person is not a universal recipient. This is because type O person, while his/her antigen-free blood cannot cause antibody defense reactions in persons of other blood types, s/he does produce anti-A and/or Anti-B antibodies to any blood transfused from a person of other than type O blood
