What are the characteristics of Magical realism?
magic realism is a writing style typical of Latin American writers. It’s usually considered to be a story with a basis in reality, ie – set in a real place or a place that could exist. This story then has usually factual activities but is paralleled with magical actions. Say, a story that is based in England, has a plot line that could actually happen, but then something magical, like a talking pig, is thrown in just for kicks and giggles. Actually, the magical element, when studied alongside Latin American culture is a huge part of a fiction story and gives a lot of insight into the theme / meaning.
