What are the characteristic features of alkaline soils?
A. In rainy season we can observe the black or bluish colour patches in these soils. Poor infiltration capacity, Deflocculated condition, poor permeability to water and air is observed. Soil structure also very poor. Due to organic matter humus absorbance the alkaline soils are black in colour. Therefore in these soils normally the plants cannot germinate and if germinates also the growth will be effective.
